In developing its lawyers to meet clients' demands, HHP is committed to provide training at all levels, whether in internship programs for new graduates or through professional development programs for more experienced lawyers or lateral hires.

An HHP lawyer normally would start as an Associate at the time of joning HHP. An Associate is categorized as junior, mid-level, or senior. A senior Associate may be considered for partnership in accordance with individual professional development and contribution as well as the overall development of HHP.

    In order to maintain its high standards, HHP expects each applicant for lawyer positions to meet certain basic criteria.

    All applicants must have:

    • an Indonesian law degree (Sarjana Hukum, SH) with strong academic track record;
    • an advocate license;
    • good communication skills with excellent English speaking and writing skills;
    • the ability to analyze problems and offer practical solutions;
    • a personable manner and the ability to work in a team; and
    • an international outlook.
    Professional Development
  • Professional Development Programs are specifically tailored for everyone from new graduate lawyers to experienced lawyers. Associates are required to attend these programs on a regular basis. Current programs include: (i) training on specific legal developments by partners, (ii) training on negotiation and drafting techniques, and (iii) English for lawyers.
  • Practice Group Development Program: Associates may be required to attend external technical training courses in accordance with their practice group requirements.
  • Associate Rotation Program: an Associate with less than three years of law practice is required to spend approximately nine months each in at least three practice groups. At the end of the rotation program, an Associate is expected to have developed some degree of legal expertise in a practice area sufficient to choose a specific area of practice for specialization.
  • Short Term Secondment Program: after three years of law practice at HHP, and nearing the end of the rotation program, an Associate will be eligible to spend three months at a correspondent law firm abroad. During this secondment the Associate is expected to gain exposure to international practice as well as develop certain technical skills.
  • Associate Training Program: a mid-level associate who has been with HHP for at least two years will be eligible to be considered for the Associate Training Program. A qualified Associate may be selected to spend between 6 and 12 months in a correspondent law firm abroad, during which time the Associate is expected to further develop technical and practical skills, gain a new sense of perspective on international law practice, and strengthen relations both with the receiving correspondent office and clients with interests in that jurisdiction.
  • Internship Program

    HHP runs a regular internship program to provide hands-on working experience for law students. The program combines legal research on specific legal matters as well as client-related assignments.

  • July-August Internship Program (since 1995) - a law student will be eligible to apply for this Internship Program after acquiring 120 credit units or more from their law school. Applications must be submitted before 30 April, attaching a current photograph and a 1000-word essay on a designated topic. Applicants must undergo an internship test, and applicants will be selected for test eligibility by our Internship Committee.

  • HHP Workshop (since 1994) - HHP together with a Faculty of Law Student Senate, holds workshops on current legal topics. As a reward for successful participation in the workshop, a law student is given the opportunity of working as an intern for one to three months with HHP. Previous workshops include: April 1999, University of Indonesia - Bankruptcy law; August 1997, Parahyangan University - Corporate Law, etc.
  • Year-Round Internship Opportunity (since 2000) - This opportunity is open to recent law graduates with no experience working in the field of law. Applicants must undergo an internship test and applications will be sorted out for test eligibility by our Internship Committee.

  • Semi-annual Recruitment Test

    HHP conducts regular candidate Associate tests twice a year, in April and September. Applications received before this schedule will be selected for test eligibility by our Recruitment Committee. This test is specifically required for fresh graduates, lawyers with a maximum of three years' experience in other law firms and law graduates with a maximum of six years working experience in a non-law firm.

    Foreign Legal Consultant

    Although there are certain regulatory constraints on the hiring of expatriate lawyers, applications from foreign lawyers who possess a law degree from an internationally recognized law school and have experience in practicing law will be considered.
