On Wednesday, 26 February, HHP Law Firm hosted its 4th Tech Meetup. This time the discussion focused on edutech. The session was opened by our partner, Cahyani Endahayu, followed by a presentation delivered by associate Kristi Hanaria Tomasouw. Cahyani and Kristi gave a general overview of the education ecosystem in Indonesia. The session was attended by many of our tech company clients and contacts.


 

On Wednesday, 26 February, our Capital Markets senior partner Iqbal Darmawan spoke at the Indonesia Corporate Secretary Association (ICSA) Corporate Legal & Corporate Action Workshop at Le Meridien Jakarta. Iqbal shared his knowledge on the legal aspects of affiliate transactions and conflicts of interest. This event was attended by the corporate secretaries of more than 40 different companies.


 

On Friday, 21 February, our Employment and Dispute Resolution practice groups hosted a joint breakfast meeting with the topic "Mass Termination." We invited an official from the Indonesian Ministry of Employment, Mr. Reytman Aruan, Head of Sub Directorate of Industrial Relations Dispute Settlement, to be the guest speaker. Mr. Aruan delivered a presentation on "Termination of Employment in relation to Corporate Action" from the regulator's perspective.

Following the presentation, there was a panelist discussion on mass termination case studies. Mr. Reytman Aruan, our associate partner Alvira Wahjosoedibjo, and senior associate Rinaldo Aditya served as panelists, and our senior partner Andi Kadir served as moderator. The session received excellent feedback from the audience.


19 Feb 

We held our fourth M&A Masterclass on Wednesday, 19 February. This time the discussion focused on tips and tricks using OSS Systems and the ESOP Plan. The session was led by our Foreign Legal Consultant Gerrit Jan Kleute, our Partner Daniel Pardede and our CCS Manager Preti Suralaga. On Tuesday, 18 February, our Jakarta Dispute Resolution and Banking & Finance Practice Groups hosted a breakfast meeting on "Impacts of Constitutional Court Decision on Creditors' Rights in Fiducia Security Enforcement." Our senior partners, Andi Kadir and Indri P. Guritno presented the Constitutional Court's interpretation of the Fiducia Law, the implications for creditors' rights to enforce their collateral, considerations on alternative structures, and provisions to include in fiducia security documents.


14 Feb 

On Friday, 14 February, our Jakarta Dispute Resolution Practice Group hosted a breakfast meeting on "Insurance Disputes." Our senior partner, Andi Kadir, and senior associate, Bernard Sihombing, did a presentation on exemplary arbitration and court cases on insurance disputes and how to effectively manage insurance disputes. Issues include appointment of loss adjuster, non-disclosure, product registrations, misrepresentation, breach of warranty, breach of conditions precedent or subsequent, policy construction and exclusion clauses and claim calculations. The session received excellent feedback from the audience.


Feb 13

On Thursday, 13 February, our Tax and Trade team hosted a Trade breakfast meeting, “Knowing Where the Government Will Go: Industry 4.0 and E-Commerce,” with clients from various industries, including retail, automotive and F&B. Our trade partner Riza Buditomo shared insights and discussed five main sectors in Industry 4.0 and strategies for each sector.


Feb11 

On Tuesday, 11 February, together with Masyarakat Energi Terbarukan Indonesia (METI) we held a focus group discussion on Indonesia renewable energy Power Purchase Agreements. The session was opened by METI Chairman Dr. Surya Darma, MBA, and continued with a presentation from Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral (MEMR), Ari Suryoko. Our partner, Nadia Soraya and senior associate Anita Karina Sungkono also shared their knowledge and experience on legal perspectives and led the discussion. The audience came from regulators, sponsors, banks and other industry players.

In February, the Asosiasi Energy Surya Indonesia (AESI) held its Member Gathering & Solar Talk at @america Pacific Place, Jakarta. Our senior associate, Anita Karina Sungkono, got the chance to share her legal knowledge on solar energy alongside other panelists, including Rida Mulyana, the electricity director general of MEMR; Fabby Tumiwa of Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR); Syarifah Nuly Nazlia of Coaction Indonesia and Lisa Hall of Babcock Ranch, the first solar-powered city in the US.

The event was open for the public and there was an interesting Q&A session between the panelists and the diverse audience. We thank AESI for the insightful session and their continuous efforts to bring a solar energy mindset closer and closer to Indonesia. The event name was "Full Speed Ahead! Accelerating Solar Energy in Indonesia: Are We Ready?" It seems the answer is "Yes, we are!"


 30 Jan

On 30 January 2020, our Healthcare team hosted a breakfast meeting with the topic, “Update on the Implementation of Halal Certification Requirement.” Partner Cahyani Endahayu and senior associate Reagen Lodeweijke M shared their knowledge of halal certification and relevant regulations. The discussion focused on the updated regulation on the process for obtaining halal certificates. It was an interactive session, with 31 people attending in person and several others joining through webinar.
